(Adapted from problem 17.6 in Elliott and Lira) Ethanol can be manufactured by the vapour phase hydration of ethylene according to the reaction C2H4+H2OC2H5OH The feed to a reactor in which the above reaction takes place is a gas mixture containing 25mol% ethylene and 75mol% steam. Assume ideal gas reactions to solve the following parts: a) Assuming that the shortcut van't Hoff relation applies, what is the value of the equilibrium constant K at 125C and 1 bar? b) Provide an expression to relate K to the equilibrium reaction coordinate and using the value for K from part a ), find and the mole fractions of all species after the reaction has come to equilibrium at 125C and 1bar. c) Without assuming the shortcut van't Hoff relation (i.e. using the full van't Hoff relation and the heat capacity functions given in table E.1 of Elliott and Lira), find a more accurate value for K at 125C and 1bar. d) Using the value for K from part c ), find and the mole fractions of all species after the reaction has come to equilibrium at 125C and 1bar. e) Using your answer from part b) or d), determine the heat transfer required per mole of reactor feed entering the reactor at 298K and 1bar and leaving the reactor at equilibrium and 125C and 1bar
