Please help with how to answer the following question.
Let's consider a client and a server machine, which are 150KM apart, and directly
connected to each other using a dedicated but rather slow connection. The client
and server both can transmit data at a rate of 2,500 bps in both directions. Sup-
pose that packets containing data are 50,000 bits long, and packets containing only
control (e.g., ACK or handshaking) are 250 bits long. Let's also assume that the
propagation speed on this connection is 300x106m=s.
The client requests a web page (an object) from the HTTP server over a TCP
connection, and the web page includes references to 10 other objects (images).
Lets assume that the web page as well as the referred objects are of equal size i.e.
50,000 bits each, and can t into a single packet.
Compute the time required to download the web page and objects using non-
persistent HTTP and N parallel connections (N = 10 in this case), where each
connection gets 1/N of the link bandwidth? Also, compute the time required to
download the web page and objects using a persistent HTTP but a serial connec-
tion? Which approach seems better? Justify and explain your answer.
