Recall that often thep-value for a test is defined as "the probability of obtaining data at least as extreme as the data observed, given thatH0is true". Suppose a friend of yours studying psychology is reading a paper that mentions ap-value of 0.0001, and concludes that this means it is extremely unlikely that the null hypothesisH0is true. Keeping in mind that they're not a stats-expert like you, how would you explain to them howp-values are correctly interpreted?
