Seven Key Leadership Ideas
- Authentic Leaders-The importance of authentic leaders is that they have a sense of purpose and are self-aware, honest, and transparent. They understand why they are leading, have a direction, practice good morals, value long-term relationships, and are self-disciplined to show up and meet their commitments (Billgeorgeorg, n.d.). An authentic leader has a moral perspective, puts the needs of the business and clients ahead of personal desires, and can be trusted to control the company's destiny. To ensure employees' happiness, commitment, and job satisfaction, such leaders have to demonstrate a sense of authenticity.
- Personality-The importance of personality is that it influences people's reactions towards situations and interactions with others and helps leaders manage their teams well to promote their effectiveness at work. A leader has the duty of managing the different personalities of the employees to encourage interactions for the set organizational goals to be accomplished. In the work environment, leaders need to have conscientiousness, which is the ability to be dependable and responsible (Jaber, n.d.). Also, they should have positive emotional security and an internal locus of control to handle stress and criticism and take responsibility, respectively.
- Inclusive Leadership-Inclusive leadership is essential because it energizes and motivates a team to feel valued and engaged in a shared vision. Leaders that uphold an inclusive kind of leadership create workspaces where the ideas of all employees count. In today's workforce, teams have become diverse, and leaders need to create opportunities for everyone to prosper and feel like they have a stake in the business (Bilimoria, 2012). Leaders should ensure that all their workers feel that they belong and are considered insiders who can access information and the necessary resources for effectiveness in their performance.
- Strategic Thinking-Strategic thinking is important because it helps leaders evaluate and view matters and make decisions. Such leaders can be logical and creative and develop a focused company vision. Also, they can think with a strategic purpose in their visioning process (Center for Simplified Strategic Planning Inc., n.d.). A critical advantage for strategic thinkers is that they can define objectives and devise plans to address the various tasks using the required resources within a particular period.
- Building and Sustaining Relationships-The importance of building and sustaining relationships is that it is a means of achieving goals. In work settings, people are expected to work together in teams and perform their tasks in harmony. It is also essential to build relationships to get support from colleagues and win allies, especially when one is pushing for the approval of a project (Community Tool Box, n.d.). Through relationships, work develops meaning and richness, and employees get a chance to share their joys and struggles and are more satisfied since they believe they have someone to talk to when they face challenges in their jobs.
- Creativity and Innovation-Creativity and innovation are important because they drive organizational success and ensure that the business has a competitive advantage. Leaders have a role in creating an environment that catalyzes creativity and innovation. Creative businesses emerge through deliberate changes in the culture, processes, structure, and technological infrastructure (Regent University, 2008). In organizations that prefer authoritarian leadership, where the top management manages all the work, the people are less innovative and less productive; thus, the leadership should inspire all the workers to bring out their creative selves.
- Servant Leadership-Servant leadership is important because it motivates leaders to help their staff with no ulterior motives, with the emphasis being on the followers and other things being viewed as secondary. Servant leadership puts the team ahead of the company mission. Customer-facing employees should have close relationships with customers, and the servant leadership style is appropriate for them. Empathy, which includes understanding the employees better, is also an element of servant leadership (Indeed Editorial Team, 2022).
