The article I found states that minimum wage and unemployment have been related for the last quarter century (Peterson, 2022). In fact, Peterson states that an increase in minimum wage can lead to an increase in unemployment (2022). A high minimum high can lead to inflation. The Federal Reserve kicks in to bring inflation down by creating strategies to make people spend less money. One of their strategies is increasing interest rates to slow the economy down, causing unemployment (federalreserve.gov). I agree with the results. We have seen a market being affected every time the Federal Reserve announces rate hikes. Cox states that the Federal Reserve is looking to increase interest rates to highest level in more than 22 years (2023). Cox also states that unemployment has held up strong regardless of the interest rates increase (2023). Now, Peterson does mention that there are studies showing that there is no impact in unemployment when we have high minimum wage. I do think it is important to look more closely at the relationship between the studies agreeing and disagreeing with the impact of minimum wage. Conscious capitalism aims to balance the interest of all stakeholders, including employees, customers and suppliers (GCU, 2020). By increasing minimum wage, conscious capitalism can demonstrate its commitment to social responsibility and ethical business practices. For example, a minimum wage can be seen as a way to improve the lives of employees. This could lead to an increase in employee satisfaction and higher productivity which can benefit the company and stakeholders (Griffin et al, 2020).
