pLEASE PROVIDE A RESPONSE FOR THIS POST

As the weeks of this class are passing, this writer is learning an abundance of information regarding the importance of fighting for social justice as well as the operational aspects of non-profit organizations that aide underprivileged individuals and engage in the fight for social justice. Fundraising is one of the most important issues for non-profit organizations, as without money the organization has no way to carry out its mission (Congress et al., 2017). For fundraising to be successful the values and priorities of the donors must be in line with the non-profit's activities, core values and mission (Congress et al., 2017).

In this writer's opinion, there is no shortage of charitable organizations that one can make charitable donations to. As a matter of fact, it seems that every day this writer receives flyers from multiple organizations that are collecting donations. In addition, this writer has noticed that in the majority of stores that she shops in, when checking out she is often asked if she would like to "round up" the dollar amount that she is paying for a donation to one cause or another. In many cases this writer will round off the amount that she pays when shopping, but not always.

However, this writer donates on a pretty consistent basis to St Jude's Research Hospital. The two main factors that motivate this writer to donate to St Jude's is her awareness of the need that the hospital has for donations and psychological factors. Donating to this cause does produce an emotional response in this writer. She feels good after she donates and feelings of guilt for all of the money that she has basically thrown away over the past twenty years tend to subside (Congress et al., 2017). According to Sujin & Shin (2021), donating money to charities increases one's "warm glow," which is associated with the experience of an emotional reward, as well as job satisfaction and overall happiness. In addition, the emotional benefit of charitable giving seems to be greater when the giver is more aware of the specific consequences of their donations (Sujin & Shin, 2021). This writer is aware that her donations to St Jude's Research Hospital go to helping young children that have been diagnosed with one or multiple types of cancer. Money donated to St Jude's also goes to helping the parents of the children with living and food expenses while they are with their children and their children are receiving treatment. St Jude leads the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases (St Jude Research Hospital, 2022). In addition, St Jude provides housing and food for families and covers their travel expenses while their child is in treatment (St Jude Research Hospital, 2022).

So, at the end of the day, this writer does not specifically know how her money is being utilized, but she knows it is being utilized for a great cause. This writer understands that charitable financial donation is distinct from other forms of spending in that its consequences are often unknown and non-specific for the donor, and as a result, in many cases the giver cannot reliably experience or predict the donation's eventual use (Sujin & Shin, 2021). This writer realizes that she does not know exactly where her money goes, but however St Jude's chooses to use her money is ok with her. In sum, charitable financial giving confers benefits not only to beneficiaries and broader society, but also to the donors themselves (Sujin & Shin, 2021).
