The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information and guidance on the advantages and disadvantages of moving Easy Chairs' manufacturing operations abroad.

Easy Chairs have been in operations, in the United States, for approximately 5 years (UMGC, 2023). Easy Chairs mission is to provide wheelchairs that require low maintenance and can be easily repaired by technicians with basic mechanically skills. Easy Chairs has also made a commitment to ensuring that veterans are hired as employees (UMGC, 2023).

Easy Chairs are manufactured in the United States, with most revenue generated through internet sales, within the United States (UMGC, 2023). The currently goal is to expand Easy Chairs internationally and move manufacturing overseas.

The distribution agreement coordinated with Japan and South Korea, is a great beginning. To start, there will only be a focus on advantages and disadvantages for moving Easy Chairs operations to Japan.

Japan is considered the most literate and with the most skilled workforce (US News, n.d.) abroad. Japan is a versatile country. The majority of the country is wooded areas and mountains; however, the citizens live a more cultured and urban lifestyle (US News, n.d.). This will play a major part in how well American and Japanese civilian will be able to adjust and adapt to one another.

In order to ensure that operates flow smoothly and the quality of Easy Chairs are sustained abroad, there must be some American employees sent abroad to setup, oversee, and maintain quality operations abroad. The onboarding process for both Americans and Japanese must include a very detailed training session on customs, work ethics, communication, and respect.

Prior to moving operations abroad, there must be an emphasis placed on employee relations, communication, and culture. Communication and understanding are the foundation of a solid productive move abroad. If there is a lack in any of these areas, it will have the potential to cause serious issues down the road that will affect the production, revenue, and profits of the organization. There will be a definite need for knowledgeable, strong, and emotional intelligent leadership, to ensure that the work and relationship are maintained according to corporate standards.

There are several advantages and disadvantages for moving manufacturing abroad. The most important would be cost saving, international sales, and innovation. The biggest disadvantages would be quality control, language barriers, and bureaucracy (Strategic Advisor Board, 2022).

Easy Chairs is built on a solid foundation and has been extremely success thus far and will successfully venture abroad after extensive research and preparation.
