The primary goal is to investigate the impact of language familiarity on the "irrelevant speech effectimmediate free recall". The study wanted to analyze if there was a significant difference in the interference caused by familiar and unfamiliar language on the process of irrelevant speech effect immediate free recall.Also, to verify if unfamiliar languages, such as Thai, used in an English experiment, might interfere less with the recall process compared to familiar languages, such as English, due to the reduced phonological and semantic overlap with the task at hand.By using an unfamiliar language like Thai in an English experiment, the hypothesis suggested that unfamiliar languages may have a lesser interference effect on immediate free recall because participants may not allocate as much cognitive processing to the unfamiliar language, resulting in improved recall performance. This study aimed to contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms behind the irrelevant speech effect and the role of language familiarity in cognitive processes, which could have implications for areas like language processing, cognitive psychology, and educational settings.
