On November 21, 2008, Canada and Colombia signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which was their third FTA of 2008 and their sixth with an American (Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement, 2021).

In addition to the free trade agreement, Canada and Colombia have negotiated accords on labour cooperation and environmental cooperation to ensure that the growth of commerce does not come at the expense of environmental or worker rights. The Environment Agreement, the Labour Cooperation Agreement, and the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Canada and Colombia came into force on August 15, 2011. The agreement covers a wide range of areas, including as investments, government purchases, goods, and services. Many tariffs and trade barriers have been lifted, giving businesses operating in both nations more access to the markets (Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement, 2021).
