There are so many forms of gambling out there, rack track betting, sports betting, casino games (slots, blackjack, roulette, craps, etc.), poker, the list goes on. There are restrictions on gambling at both the state and federal levels. The federal government limits gambling between states, other countries, and on Native American land. Each state also has its own restrictions on what types of gambling are allowed within its borders. Some form of gambling is allowed in all states of the United States except Hawaii and Utah. I live in the most restrictive gambling state in the country, welcome to Utah, so in order to participate in any gambling, I have to leave the state. I have gone to Nevada and played at the casinos, and have participated in state lotteries when we were stationed with the military in states that had them.

I do agree with the laws that make unrestricted gambling illegal. Again because I live in a state that does not allow any form of gambling within its borders, not even bingo guys, and have been stationed in other places with the military, I have had the unique opportunity to see the difference between even the restricted laws. You don't see people opting to buy lottery tickets cause the payout is $600 million instead of buying food for your kids for the week here, and yes I have seen this happen. We don't have a lot of people that are in debt so badly that they lose their house chasing that next win. I'm not saying we don't have people choosing other addiction options here that can lead to that, but because it is harder to just throw money away at a game of chance, it's not as widespread as I've seen it in other places.
