A) In the past, before I became involved in public health terms, I often wondered why certain public healthcaremethods and statistics were used and unused on certain projects, this class has given me greater insight into public health methods and policies.
The last project (topic 2) was very interesting to me regarding the simple random sample because it gathered much information in a short time without much cost (5 dollars per participant). I wonder how many people did it for the money without taking the survey seriously.
I think knowing the race and culture of the participants would have given better clarity to the survey (just my opinion).
B) The first step of hypothesis testing is creating the hypothesis that you will be testing! Not only are you creating a hypothesis that will be a set parameter called your null hypothesis, but an alternative hypothesis as well (Penn State University, n.d.). The purpose of the alternative hypothesis is to have other values that will be different from the null hypothesis. While in this step it is important check that the conditions will be in order and help support the research (Penn State University, n.d.). After the hypothesis are made, a significance level () has to be determined. This value will be used to show if the data is significant to the hypothesis or not and if we will reject our null hypothesis (Penn State University, n.d.). The third step will be to gather the data and calculate the statistic. From there the p-value will be calculated during the fourth step. The probability value is created by using the data to see if it would or how common it could be to get the result again (Penn State University, n.d.). Using that information, the fifth step involves deciding what we are going to do with the null hypothesis. We will never accept the null hypothesis, we can either reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis (Penn State University, n.d.). The sixth and final step is to state the final conclusion using the data. The p-value has allowed us to make a conclusion on the null hypothesis and can now help us summarize the research overall (Penn State University, n.d.). Following all of these steps is imperative for the research to be done correctly all the way through to find the most accurate results.
Hypothesis testing can be applied to if making teens take a mandatory drivers course in high school, there will be less accidents involving teen drivers. Based on giving students more drivers education, data on accidents can be collected and then hypothesis testing can be used to see if this education has made an impact in the community or not.
