Ocean Park Hong Kong background Ocean Park Hong Kong is a not-for-profit organization operated by the Ocean Park Corporation, with the complementary goals of entertaining its guests while also educating them about the natural environment and conservation. This is achieved using a combination of thrill rides, shows, animal attractions, educational programs, kids' camps, and teaching resources._ The Ocean Park Academy Hong Kong is responsible for attaining the educational goals of the organization, connecting with both teachers and students to bring them closer to nature._ Ocean Park employs about 2,400 staff._ The park was opened in January 1977 and operates on more than 910,000 square metres of land dedicated by the Hong Kong Government in Aberdeen on the south side of Hong Kong island. The Hong Kong Jockey Club funded the HK$150 million initial cost, as well as the HK$240 million cost of the second development phase from 1982-1984. In 1987, Ocean Park was separated from the Hong Kong Jockey Club into the Ocean Park Corporation, an independent statutory body funded by an endowment from the Jockey Club."
