Very few customers came to the grand opening of Ashley's restaurant on Monday morning, so she placed an ad in the following Thursday's local newspaper saying "Grand Opening Saturday MorningJoin Ashley for coffee and let her satisfy your sweet tooth." Bill and Marlene saw the ad and went to the restaurant on Saturday. They sat down at a table and waved over a waitress who was holding a coffeepot. They did not even look at the menu on the table. The waitress came over to the table, and Bill pointed to his cup; she filled it up with coffee. She turned and looked at Marlene; Marlene nodded, and her cup was also filled. The waitress then asked if she could get them something, and Bill said, "Surprise us with something to 'satisfy our sweet tooth.'" The waitress returned with two cinnamon buns. Bill picked up the bun and took a bite. It was much too sweet; he did not like it, so Marlene did not even touch hers. They got up and left the restaurant without paying. The menu listed coffee at a price of $1.75 and cinnamon buns at $2.50. Do Bill and Marlene have a contract with the restaurant?

2. Friday evening after closing, Sackett's Appliances placed an ad in its window. "This weekend only, five Whirlwind dishwashers, reduced from $1199 to $599 Shop early" Martens saw the ad later that evening. She appeared the next morning at 9:00 a.m. when Sackett's opened its doors and stated to the clerk, she would take one of the Whirlwind dishwashers. The clerk replied that the ad was a mistake; the price should have been $999. Martens demanded to speak with the manager and insisted on Sackett's honoring its offer to sell at $599. The manager said. "I'm sorry, madam, but the machine cost us more than $800. we cannot sell it at $599. "Martens said Sacket's was in breach of contract and she would see her lawyer about it. He asserted that since Purcell had refused his offer there was no deal. Is Ouentin right? Has Purcell any basis for claiming there is a binding contract with Quentin?
