Program Evaluation

The Sodium Reduction in Communities Program's variation the Heart-Healthy Food Shows in Onondaga County, New York State, designed to lessen the burden of diseases and conditions related to increased sodium in an individual's daily diet through increasing the availability of sodium reduced foods and the development of healthier dietary behaviors for distributers and residents (CDC, 2022). The data collected through surveys with healthy food vendors and Onondaga County residents along with the interviews with local institutions that distribute reduced-sodium products: grocery stores/convenience stores, hospitals, community centers, and schools would be analyzed. The surveys will consist of closed-ended questions with a section to provide optional feedback in the end, this would be calculated using categorical data, the nominal data would be the resident's choices of sodium reduced product, and to range their knowledge of risks with sodium intake among other predetermined options for answers (Perrin, 2022). The semi-structured and observational interviews with take inventory at set time periods during the evaluation along with availability of reduced-sodium products this would be best served using the ordinal scale to determine if there is a change in consumer demand (Perrin, 2022).

The audiences would be the Onondaga County Health Department, Syracuse University students that took part in the food demonstration, and community representatives from local institutions are stakeholders that had a part in funding and/or attending the Heart-Healthy Food Shows, this audiences would be knowledgeable in the programs goals and want to understand if they had been met by reviewing the information gathered by the evaluation. The stakeholders want to improve the overall health of Onondaga County residents, the presentation would include information that is concise and visual, engagement during the meeting to go over results the stakeholders would want to see how the program turned out. I would present the information using a bar graph comparing the results against that of a similar program in another county using the SRCP, to identify areas that this program was successful and what could be done to improve the impact on community health.
