Question:
Please read the following 3 posts and write about a paragraph each on what your thoughts are on the topic?
1. All of the different types of graphs and numerical measures and which to use for certain types of data may seem overwhelming. Explain when it would be more appropriate to use a pie graph versus a line graph. Would certain graphs be dependent on the type of data (e.g. qualitative versus qualitative)?
2. I agree that pie charts are very easy to read. However they're also easy to manipulate in terms of data percentages when it comes to population. I believe sampling error is the term that would be used when it comes to the difference between true population and actual sample data. For example a few years ago I did a DNA test for ancestry.com every so often they find a way to manipulate the ethnicity pie chart but yet the population they collect their data from is about 16,000,000 (USA population is 340,000,000) people out of 8 billion people who are actually alive on this planet. Also they have other statistical errors that I have found in their collection. The annual ethnicity % review and changes are laughable. Based upon their statics, my grand nephew is my cousin- talk about a comedy of errors.
3. When it comes to the presentation of data collected, I found it interesting that the various types of charts and graphs ,I have already seen ;but did not understand the specifics of those charts and terms of statistics. Reflecting on a bar charts, line graph, histogram, and stem and leaf plots; I am now amazed at the details that are involved in providing information taken from a specific population. I also found it very interesting the level of mathematics that is involved with statistics. Now I understand how important statistics is an everyday living and it's impact in all areas of our lives.
