Figure out the size of one package of the item you are shipping (e.g. one golf club, one guitar with case). You want the dimensions (height, width, depth) in either inches or metric units (millimeters =mm), as well as the weight (pounds or kilograms =kg). [hint: you can look it up on retailer websites like Amazon or sometimes on the manufacturer's website] 2. Figure out how many individual packages you will fit into one shipping box (pick a standard sized box that makes sense for your product). 3. Given that the dimensions of a standard pallet ("industrial pallet") are 1000mm width and 1200mm length (in the USA 39.37" width and 47.24" length), and that the inside height of a 20-ft container is 2395mm (94.29"), how many boxes can you fit onto one pallet? 4. Given that you can fit 10 standard-sized pallets onto one container, how many units of your product will fit into one 20-ft container? 5. Calculate the total value of your shipment by multiplying the total number of units by the retail price per unit in the USA. 6. Calculate the total weight of shipment, by multiplying the number of boxes per pallet by 10 pallets + add 2,200Kg for the weight of the empty container ("tare").
