What are the potential positive and negative psychological effects of doubting one's abilities while still pursuing tasks beyond one's self-efficacy?

Cognitive psychology suggests that we construct cognitive generalizations, called schemas, about ourselves based on our experiences; these constructs, known as schemas, organize and manage how we process information (Funder, 2019). For example, we perform better on tasks where we feel proficient in that trait. Once we have formed a schema for a behavior or ability (for example, empathy or resilience), it influences how we act and perceive the world, affecting memories and psychological well-being. According to Funder (2019), our perception of self, whether conceptualized as a schema or a trait, can significantly impact our information processing. Self-efficacy is how self-image influences our actions and often plays a significant role in determining our choices and outcomes; Bandura suggested that our self-concept defines what we will attempt to achieve (Funder, 2019).
