please respond to peer discussion below.
My personal preferred work schedule is working 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week or 12-hour shift, 3 days a week. This work schedule is typical in perioperative nursing, which is the type of nursing I do. Scheduling practices that are important to me include knowing that my shift is certain, and I don't have to stay past my clock out time. On call scheduling is usually mandatory when working in the operating room or the recovery room. A fair rotation of call shifts is extremely important for my work-life balance and having the flexibility to swap call shifts with coworkers or pick up a shift is preferred. Creating a flexible schedule with several scheduling options that results in work schedule consistency for each employee is one strategy that nurse managers can use to retain employees (Yoder-Wise, 2019). Having enough staff to reduce burn out and stress is also important.Having this type of scheduling practice would lead me to accept employment in an organization. Scheduling practices that would lead me to leave a job or look elsewhere is having unfair scheduling assignments for surgical cases, being understaffed, mandatory overtime and lack of training and flexibility. Other areas that I would ask questions about before accepting employment are about, benefits and compensation, training, support from leadership, patient load, and surgical case load, as well as the opportunity to learn and grow within the organization. The culture of the organizations as well as understanding team dynamics in the operating room are important to me since we work in teams for most of the day. Questions I would ask my potential employerhave to do with salary and how raises are determined, shift length, how the on-call schedule is worked out, and how far ahead the call schedule made. Knowing how far ahead schedules are made allow me to schedule days off or appointments I may need to attend. Asking about paid time off for overtime are also questions I would want answered. Employee satisfaction and happiness translate into higher productivity, turnover, and performance levels for the company, and stress and burnout are the most detrimental effects of work-life imbalance on employee performance and can lead to significant absenteeism (Jena, 2019). Reflecting on what is important to my life as well as my priorities is important to maintain a healthy work-life balance before accepting a job. This strategy allows me to compare my wants with what the job opportunity is offering me.
