First off it takes a lot to be as brave as officers are to do their job, even just their daily routine duties, but I do believe their should be punishment if an officer were to abandon their duties in a highly instense scenario. The procedures are there for a reason, and they must be followed. There is purpose behind the training that these officers get, and it's so they know what to do in those situations. If they don't follow the procedures, it'll costs them and they must be held accountable for it. In the first video the Sheriff states that whenever their is an active shooter, law enforcement goes in to address the target, but Officer Peterson did not do that. Although many accuse Officer Peterson of being a coward, he believes he did everything right such as, communicating correctly on the scene. I wouldn't say it's a cowardly thing he did because even with all the training and experience in law enforcement it's human nature to be afriad or hesitate in situations like that. The attorney of Officer Peterson expresses that he doesn't think a full investigation of that crime could be completed in eight days, hinting that if looked into further they would find an explanation for Peterson's actions. I simply think that if policies or procedures are not followed there should be a heavy reevaluation or training especially when lives are lost. In the second video the reporter clearly states that it was indeed the wrong decision to not go in, meaning they didn't do what they should've. If the plan of action is followed and the outcome isn't what you hoped for then you still tried your best and did everything right, but if you don't do what is required of you and the outcome is bad, or even good, then you should be held liable.
