1. Oxytocin

The hormone Oxytocin is a modified amino acid. Amino acids are molecules that combine to form proteins. Alpha- Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone stimulates oxytocin release from the dendrites of the hypothalamic neurons while the inhibiting oxytocin release from the Neurohypophysis. Oxytocin helps in aiding with contractions of the uterine wall and constriction of mammary glands. After childbirth oxytocin will be used to aid in constricting blood vessels to prevent hemorrhage. There isn't a lot of research on oxytocin and how too much can affect the body, but it has been linked to oversensitivity to the emotions of others and benign prostatic hyperplasia. This can make passing urine, hard.

In simple plain talk, after we eat food our blood sugar will rise. This is the process in which our bodies break down glycogen. Our pancreas will release insulin to break down glucose for energy and store the extra for later. By the 2-5 hours after eating our blood sugar falls towards homeostasis. Once we've reached homeostasis (5-8 hours) our glycogen reserves will begin to be used for energy. After 8 hours of fasting, our liver will then use up its last glucose reserve and our bodies will go into the state of gluconeogenesis. This process results in the generation of glucose from body fat instead of carbohydrates. And by hour 10 fat cells will release fat into the bloodstream, to the liver and covert that into energy for our bodies. Essentially fat is being burned in order for your body to survive.

I'm not sure I'd use IF to help patients who have high blood pressures. Real lifestyle changes would have to be made. As we see, we don't reach homeostasis of the blood pressure for a few hours. It goes the same way for people who have high blood pressure. They'd have to have the discipline in themselves to try IF. The patient would have to do IF for a while to see changes in their insulin sensitivity as well.

2. Sexual maturity occurs during puberty and enables the body's ability to reproduce. The male sex hormone is testosterone, and the female sex hormones are estrogen and progesterone (Rizzo, 2015). The secretions of these hormones operate on a negative feedback loop to maintain the proper and consistent number of hormones within the body. Testosterones in males is responsible for the development and enlargement of the male genitalia, body hair growth, deeper voice octal, and the development of the male body frame (Rizzo, 2015). Estrogen and progesterone in females are responsible for the development of the female sex organs, the onset of menstruation cycle, enlargement of the breast, and female body frame (Rizzo, 2015). The hormone that stimulates the sex hormones are the luteinizing hormone or LH hormones. The release of these hormones is controlled by the hypothalamus located in the brain, superior to the pituitary gland (Rizzo, 2015). The hypothalamus signals the anterior pituitary gland to release the luteinizing hormones to stimulate the growth of the gonads and the gonads respond to the pituitary hormones by increasing the individual sex hormones (i.e., testosterone and estrogens). These hormones are recognized as steroid hormones. Some diseases or illnesses associated with the too much or too little of the sex hormones during development are PCOS, infertility, osteoporosis and hyperandrogenism in women (Androgens: Function, Measurement and Related Disorders, n.d.). Prostate cancer, hypoandrogenism, gynecomastia, and erectile disfunction can occur in men (Androgens: Function, Measurement and Related Disorders, n.d.).

Intermittent fasting is when the individual eats on a timed schedule that switches between fasting and not fasting over a period. During periods of fasting, the insulin levels in the blood decrease, allowing the stored sugars to be released from the adipose cells (Harvard Health Publishing Staff, 2021). The idea is to keep the insulin levels low long enough to burn off the fat. IF done correctly for short periods it can help lower blood pressure but if it stretched over long period, it could cause a decrease in the blood pressure. IF is recommended for patients attempting to control diabetes, however patients suffering from severe diabetes or type one diabetesmay want to consult with a physician before considering such a diet because it could pose more complications.

SAMPLE RESPONSE FOR #1

Hi

Enjoyed your reading your post! :) I was given oxytocin during my first pregnancy to induce my labor, which makes your labor move at a faster pace.

"Oxytocin is a medicine given through your veins (IV or intravenous)to either start your contractions or make them stronger. A small amount enters your body through the vein at a steady rate. The dose may be slowly increased as needed.

Your baby's heart rate and the strength of your contractions will be monitored closely.

  • This is done to make sure your contractions are not so strong that they harm your baby.
  • Oxytocin may not be used if tests show that your unborn baby is not getting enough oxygen or food through the placenta." (Jacobson, J. 2022)

SAMPLE RESPONSE FOR #2

Hi

your post is very informative. The human body is incredible! But I wanted to add in how I'm currently 7 months pregnant and during pregnancy how too estrogen and progesterone levels become extremely high and help the body fetus develop and mature :) Enjoyed reading your post overall!
