Nine young women participated in a study to investigate the relationship between menstrual cycle and food intake. Dietary information was obtained every day by interview; the study was double blind in the sense that the participants did not know its purpose and the interviewer did not know the timing of the menstrual cycles. The table shows for each participant the average caloric intake for the 10 days preceding and 10 days following the onset of the menstrual period. It has been shown that "food intake" follows a normal distribution.
