You will build two spreadsheets to explore the impact of discounting on benefit cost analyses, and by extension, willingness to pay for environmental policies. Take care to organize your spreadsheet to communicate effectively. Spreadsheet #1 should be on tab one of your workbook; spreadsheet #2 on tab two of the workbook. Spreadsheets should be submitted as Microsoft excel workbooks through Bb. Spreadsheet #1 This spreadsheet will be continuous, running from today through 20 years in the future. You will include columns for year (eg., 2021), n, discount factor, benefits, costs, net benefits, and present value net benefits. Use formulas rather than values wherever possible. For example, your spreadsheet should include a cell that specifies the discount rate used; the discount factor calculation should reference the cell that contains the discount rate. Costs in years 1-5: 100,000 Costs in years 6-10: 30,000 Costs in years 11-20: 10,000 Benefits in years 1 - 5: 0 Benefits in years 6-10: 20,000 Benefits in years 11-20: 150,000 Spreadsheet #2 Calculate the value of 54 million dollars received 150 years in the future at discount rates of 7,5,3,2,1,and 1/2 percent. Organize your spreadsheet to use formulas and references as much as possible
