David wants to carefully produce and distribute an effective, safe (>70% alcohol) hand sanitizer for his family, friends, and community members unable to find any in stores. The list of available ingredients and their costs are summarized in the table below: Ingredients Cost Size $8 64 oz. 16 oz. $8 Rubbing Alcohol Aloe Vera Gel Lavender Oil Small Storage Container $10 1 oz. $1 each a) To be safe, David combines 8 oz. rubbing alcohol, 2 oz. aloe vera gel, and 1/10 oz. lavender oil in each container. Describe how much each container costs him to make and how you calculated this. Write a Cost equation, C(x), that captures this scenario (Use x for the number of containers made). b) In order to recoup the cost of the ingredients and a little bit of money for the time it takes him to gather ingredients and make and distribute the sanitizer, what would a fair price be for David to ask people to pay for each container? Explain how you settled on this value. c) Write a Revenue equation, R(x), that describes how much he should charge for each container (Use x for the number of containers made). d) David figures that he could make two dozen containers of sanitizer per day. Write a Profit function, P(x), below that summarizes how much money he will make each week that he makes and sells sanitizer assuming the Cost and Revenue situations from parts a and b, above. e) David realizes that we are living in uncertain times and fears that his supply of rubbing alcohol could be disrupted in the near future. Currently, the families he wants to order enough ingredients to supply 30 families for about the next 200 days. How much of each ingredient (in whole ounces) does he need for this, and how much will it cost him to make this much sanitizer? Justify your reasoning
