For this experiment, the method involved is the Debye - Scherrer powder method. This technique involves a finely ground sample rotated while bombarded with suitable wavelength X-rays. A series of arcs are produced on a photographic film, as shown in Figure 2.2, as the incident X-ray beam is diffracted and reflected. The number and distance between the arcs are specific to the powder sample material being tested. Bragg's Law determines the "d" spacing between the planes unique to the material being tested.
