The podcast I chose to review and would suggest is Planet Money's Rigging the economy podcast as it opened my eyes and had me thinking about a lot of different things. Anyone who wants to have a deeper understanding of how our economy works will benefit from this in my opinion. The episode delves into how two people, one being a liberal and the other a conservative are both hopeful and skeptical about how slowly the American economic is growing. They are also concerned about how the economic pie is divided between the people and the inequality that takes place. It prompted me to reflect on the ways in which all of us are influenced by the economy and how the choices made by the regulators may have a significant effect on our lives. It made me realize how the economy is rigged in favor of the wealthy and powerful and how they are able to utilize their power to sway economic policy in their favor. The wealthy may also benefit and take advantage of loopholes in the economy like tax benefits and have more chances at networking with policy regulators. Since the regular individual isn't able to access these, It means that the rest of us are forced to contend with the affluent leading to economic uncertainty and inequity because the economy is skewed in favor of the wealthy and powerful. In the end, they both come to the conclusion that the economy is indeed rigged and they know how and who is rigging it.
