Week 1 - Assignment: Review Labor Unions in the United States

It is important for you, the student, to understand the role that unions play as well as the status of both public and private unions in the United States. It is also important for you to be able to identify the elements of labor unions, such as relevant laws and the structure of the CBA. This week is simply an overview of unions and their role in organizations in America today.

In a brief paper, discuss the current status of labor unions in America. Be sure to include the following:

Assess the importance of unions.

Interpret the differences between public and private labor unions. Include examples to support your findings.

Based on your examples above, select one public or private union and explain whether this union still positively influences the organizations it serves. Why or why not?
