First total the number of birds for each site. 2. For each bird at each site, calculate the Pi by dividing the bird count by the total count for that site. 3. Get the natural log (In) for each Pi using a calculator/Excel function. 4. Multiply the Pi by the In(Pi). 5. Add up all the values for each site and multiply this value by -1. This is the site's H value. 6. For Equitability, divide the H value of the site by the natural log (In) of the total species count for the site. 7.
