Thank you! 1 Executive Summary E-bikes are popular and give hope that the use of cars can be reduced, because the range that can be reached is huge, compared to the conventional bicycle. Apart from that, an e-bike can be a easier way to move independently and healthily even in old age. For this reason, the e-bike market offers an opportunity for many companies that have produced conventional means of transportation to prove themselves in the future. Nevertheless, the question of how ecological an e-bike is and what impact they have on the environment is being asked by an increasingly critical customer base. For this reason Big Motors has commissioned us to prepare one of eight life cycle assessments about e-bikes to analyse and compare the environmental impacts of an e-bike. This LCA deals with an e-bike with an NCM battery, which is a lithium ion battery type, for private use in Asia. Within the other commissioned LCAs, an e-bike with an LFP battery, as well as the location Europe and the commercial use were analysed. Big Motors collected data while the different production processes of the e-bike. The model was created with Umberto and Ecoinvent as database. The model includes all lifecycle phases from the raw material production to the end of life phase. First, the goal of this study and the framework are presented. This is followed by the inventory analysis, which shows the most commonly used materials and the product system boundaries along with the classification in the foreground and background processes. The results are shown as follows: The contribution analyses shows the contribution of the life cycle phases and the e-bike components to the impact categories. Finally, the scenario analysis will show the impact on the environment for different circumstances, e.g. different user or material selection for the bicycle frame. Reduction potentials are mainly given in the production phase due to the high amount of CO2-Eq. 2 Goal and Scope Definition 2.1 Goal Definition In our LCA, we want to support BIG Motors in establishing and producing e-bikes for the Asian market, which are intended for private use and run on NCM (Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese) batteries. A hot-spot identification for the product system will be carried out to determine which phase of the life cycle the company should focus on. In addition, BIG Motors wants to achieve a sustainable image, which we can convey by documenting the environmental compatibility of the new e-bike. There are several limitations to this study. Firstly, the focus of this study lays on the Asian market and the type of battery, namely the NCM battery. Secondly, the data stored in Ecoinvent (which will be used for the modelling) is source for another uncertainty because of the differences in collecting this
