Dark gloomy nights, cold breeze, screams and cries are all the basic concepts that most people relate to horror movies too. Symbols are all around human life no matter how broad and how little they are. Complex or not everything can be as simple just depending how people look at it, it is all a perspective on life and how we view it. Horror movies are the most symbolic things to think about. Everything down to the gory dripping blood, misty eary cold fog in the night, the presents of a ghost lingering, sharp metal knife glistening in the light, to the crucifix holding back all that lingers off in the night. A remarkable film that is the "Before" film of the Conjurings, The Nun is a horror movie based on a hunted nun that is possessed by a demon summoned by an atheist long ago. The movie is filled with religion and ghosts. Along with religion comes crucifixes that are used to keep the evil out, away, or in from any harm and getting to others. The symbols Fog, Crucifixes, and Ghosts best represent the movies due to the fact that the movie has some scenes where they are out in the night in a dark graveyard in the low lingering fog to add effect. Along with that ghost because it is possession of a demon to a human or what was a human. This is represented by a spirit that takes over an object or living thing and controls it and its movements. The movie The Nun has many symbols but to keep it under the wraps of all horror movies in general a crucifix is a great symbole to be put in this genre. A crucifix is not only in this film it is in many other horror films to represent the religion behind the devil showing that there is another side other than the dark evil controlling others. Even though not every movie is religious this symbol pops up a lot when they are trying to chase the demos out and or run them out from the main subjects of that current film.
Hush another good film in the horror genre that best fits the basic flow of symbols within the horror movie genre, for Hush a slasher movie the symbol of a knife would best represent horror films and the film in total because the murderer that goes after a deaf lady uses a knife and later on a crossbow but overall the knife had a big part to play in the movie because that was used as the murder wepon along with a self defence mecinisam. In horror many slasher films including Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street have some form of knife come into play throughout the film. A knife in horror films is a great symbole of movies in general because it is used a lot as self defense and to kill others or even as a symbol threat but movies as such do that because of the threat of death about to be done to another with the weapon in hand shows the fear and the emotion that it will happen. That weapon is what adds to the effect of fear of the character dying and such.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre films are an excellent example of the symbole blood. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a movie about a psychotic male that goes around a town and kills them with a chainsaw then puts the face of the victims on his face. A movie like this one where it is a gory horror movie with lots of blood of the victims and maybe even blood from the killer due to self defense a blood droplet will best represent the movie and genre as well. Take any horror movie for example whether it is about ghosts, religion or just a flat out slaughter movie there is blood that comes into play. There are a lot of aspects to horror movies and symbols that people can choose on their own but blood is one that most will have on their list when they think of a horror movie and what aspects and objects or things are the most basic but represent the movie as well as the whole genre as well.
Horror movies have many symbols and representations but not quite like the feeling the audience gets when they hear or see gory dripping blood, misty eary cold fog in the night, the presents of a ghost lingering, sharp metal knife glistening in the light, to the crucifix holding back all that lingers off in the night, and all that is heard in the distance but not seen. Horror movies symboles are gruesome but yet very symbolic to each and every movie and the genre in total...
