Archimedes principle an a sphere of radius r According to Archimedes' principle, the buoyant force is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the submerged portion of an object. For the cork sphere illustrated in the figure below, use the bisection method to determine the height h of the portion above the water. Use the following values for your calculation: r=1m, density of the sphere e=200kg/m3 and density of water a=1000kg/m3. Notice that the volume of the portion of the sphere above the water can be found by 1 V=3h2(3rh) To be in equilibrium, the buoyant force (which depends on h ) must be equal to the total weight of the sphere. Remember that F=mg and m=V. Therefore, F=Vg. Weight of the sphere? Volume submerged (displaced)? buoyant force? In equilibrium the total force is zero
