Two alternative designs are being chosen to warm the indoor swimming pool of a certain Palace Dweller. The first design consists uses electricity, coils ,voltage suppressors and a thermostat. The design would cost P250,000 to install. Its annual operating costs of electricity and maintenance would amount to P24,000. It has a useful life of five years, after which the design may be dismantled at a cost of P5,000 and gain a recoverable scrap value of P8,000. For accounting purposes, the straight line method of depreciation can be applied. The second design uses LPG and heating pipes pumping warmed water into the pool. The design costs P370,000 to install, and can last eight years of usefulness. Its annual operating costs may be estimated to be P16,900 and maintenance would be a minimal P500 per year. At the end of its useful life the design may be dismantled at a cost of P5,000 and its scrap materials may be sold for an estimated P10,000. For accounting purposes, the sum-ofyears'-digits method of depreciation is applicable. For a study period of 12 years and a MARR of 15%, compute for the Present worth and Future worth of the costs of each design
