Pls check for any plagiariasm. I received help from the principal in meeting the objectives of my field experience, and I was integrated into one meeting which had a few teachers.
I had the opportunity this week to meet with the school's behaviorist in order to discuss the student rewards program with him. We discussed how the program is working and what improvements can be made to make it even better. In addition, I was able to observe a few classrooms and see how the rewards program was being implemented in a few classrooms. Next, my mentor and I met together for the purpose of getting her feedback on my project. According to her, it may be useful to discuss ways in which the program can be evaluated in order to determine whether or not it is effective and how rewarding and tracking students can have a positive effect on improving their performance.
It was a very productive meeting in the overall sense, and I thought it went very well. I found the behaviorist to be extremely knowledgeable about the program, as well as giving some great insight into ways of improving it. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the reward program, and I look forward to seeing how it develops in the next few weeks.
I had a pleasure to meet with the operations and maintenance manager of the school. He is a kind and cheerful man, and I learned that the school has a procedure on how they fix the windows and the light bulbs in the school. He said staff and students are not responsible for any breakages and extra costs that result in any extra costs, and the manager of the department explained how the process of filing and ordering replacements of bulbs and glass is performed. Being a public institution, the school must bear the costs associated with its operations.
In my opinion, it was helpful to find out that these repairs were taken seriously and that they were followed up on in a timely manner. Additionally, this allows a high standard of safety, maintenance, and cleanliness to be maintained throughout our school. Additionally, I gained a better understanding of the role that the principal has in leading the school, and how she must work in close coordination with other school staff members to make sure that things run smoothly at the school. If she is in silence war with the maintenance and operations then it is impossible for the school to be a safe and clean place for the students and staff.
Under my mentor's supervision, I supervised extracurricular activities. It was my job to make sure the activities were running smoothly and according to district guidelines. I gained insight into how an activity monitor and participating staff member plan, prepare, and execute activities during my experience. I saw the structure and communication that staff need to ensure that students are participating in meaningful and enjoyable activities.
What I loved most about this experience was being able to observe firsthand the activities and conversations of the students. It helped me better understand their needs and interests and plan for the future. Additionally, it allowed me to be able to address any issues, concerns, or questions that a student may have. This experience has made me be more adept at both student management and supervision.
In order to ensure successful activities and manage for a successful outcome, communication between the staff and club leader is crucial. To make sure the activities and goals of the club are accomplished, it's also important to stay organized and look to the future.
On Wednesday, I had the chance to participate in a collaborative data analysis and come up with strategies for improving reading.
Together with the lead teacher and literacy specialist, I analyzed the assessment data from earlier in the semester. We compared student achievement with state and district standards for the majority of the meeting. Our goal was to make sure students were meeting district requirements by addressing these measures. Goals were set for improving reading scores, and strategies were discussed to get there.
For this the principal asked me to create a plan with activities to implement rigorous curricular changes and increase reading interventions. As well as discussing ways to encourage teachers to use technology in the classroom to enhance literacy, we discussed various ways to encourage teachers to incorporate it.
So far, I have only gotten to the discussion and note taking part. I still have to work on the strategy that all the ELA teachers can use for improving the testing scores. However, this experience was very helpful in regard to my own professional development and personal growth.
This Wednesday, we had a half-day, and I got to meet Jaqueline Hernandez, our head registrar. It's been a long time since my mentor asked me to talk about what she and her team faced at school.
Although I didn't know what to expect, I felt excited and ready to work with Jackie.
She introduced me to her team members and explained their roles in her office. She then gave me an overview of the challenges she and her team faced. One of the issues discussed was the lack of support from the leadership team, primarily the principal. Having to deal with staffing shortages and data entry. Jackie also talked about the need for more transparency between the registrar and other departments. Many special needs kids' parents come to her very often to request a class switch, which she is only allowed to do in order to meet their needs.
Afterward, we brainstormed ideas and discussed potential solutions. In order to streamline processes, reduce workload, and create stronger communication lines between departments, we came up with a plan. Junior High students can volunteer hours and help her with the entry or organizing work for perks. The registrar's office should also collect data more efficiently and standardize documentation processes so it can be more accurate and efficient. When we ordered a burger, the door dash guy texted us saying his GPS took him to another elementary school. I noticed that the school campus is new and that is why the registrar has loads of work to do.
The question that kept coming to my mind was why no other registrar is there who speaks good English in the office besides a bilingual staff. I also think that she answered my question as there is a staff shortage in schools. And that she just took over the previous registrar.
I really enjoyed the experience. Not only did I learn a lot about the challenges facing the registrar's office, but I also came up with some possible solutions to ease their stress. We were able to see real change by discussing the issues and coming up with a strategic plan, so we set the groundwork for success. Any staff who wants to leave early on Wednesdays could help her with data entry or organizing stuff during the prep periods. I thought this was a really clever idea.
I reacted differently with different people. In the presence of my mentor, I wasn't as much nervous as I was with the previous mentor. The current mentor, Ms. Joanne is very approachable and does not miss any opportunity to mentor me.
