Star Adventure sells outdoor play equipment for children. One of the most popular item during this pandemic COVID-19 is Product A. Product A requires three B's and two C's. B is made of C and D as shows in product structure in Figure Q1. Assuming lot sizes of A=20, B = 50, C= Lot-for-lot and D=400. There are currently A = 10 and B=30 units available with and additional scheduled receipts of 20 units of component A in period 1, 50 units of component B in week 2 and 40 units of component C in week 2. The gross requirement for the product A over the next five weeks as shown by the following Tables Q1(a). Meanwhile, Table Q1(b) shows capacity requirements for product A and Table Q1(c) is shop order schedule. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Star Adventure have very limited financial resources, therefore, subcontracting and hiring extra workers are not options at this point, but overtime, pulling work ahead, and postponing work are. Regular production cost RM25 and hour and is limited to 40 hours a week. Overtime costs RM30 and hour. During this pandemic, the work centre operates 32 hours but they produce output equivalent to 20 hours of work. An inventory cost of RM5 per period is assessed for each hour's worth of work performed in advance. Postponing work costs RM40 per item per period.
