Poindexters electric stove short circuited out and a fire ensued. The flames spread over the stove top and onto adjacent countertops eventually destroying wooden storage

  1. Poindexter’s electric stove short circuited out and a fire ensued. The flames spread over the stove top and onto adjacent countertops eventually destroying wooden storage cabinets on either side of the range. Repairs to the damage sustained by the appliance $576.00, Replacement cost $498.00. Repair/replacement to the cabinets$1,008.00 Refinish walls and ceilings $289.00. Clean up $125.00
  1. The contents of each of the destroyed cabinets included 2 sets of Corelleware ($59/each) punch bowl and matching glasses 8 ($159,99). Examination of the circuit breaker box revealed that the box had been recently serviced by Roadrunner Electric Services, Inc. It seems that the work order provided an internal rewiring of the circuit board using .09 gauge wiring which specifications required .12 gauge wiring. Seems that the thinner gauge directly contributed to an overload and short circuit of the system.
  1. Fire Department was called to the scene and a hose was tossed into an adjacent pond as a water source instead of the tanker truck whose valves had recently required replacement (and which had not yet been replaced---they were on order). The volunteer fire company entered the front door of the dwelling and opened the hose valve allowing pond water to drench the interior walls of the foyer and living room along with a sofa ($890.00) two overstuffed chairs $449 ea), the walls and ceiling (clean and refinish $1,215.00 , 36” HD TV $590.00).
  1. Two volunteer Firemen made their way to the roof and as they had been trained, began to chop holes in the roof to (a) let smoke escape and (b) ascertain if the flames had spread to the attic. Damages to repair the roof $960 to remove shingles, undercoat, sheathing, repair and replace with LKQ materials.
  1. While swinging their axes on the roof, the firemen came across an area that embers had floated to the attic ceiling and a small fire started when these embers hit the attic insulation. The action of the ax drove into the smoldering insulation and caused two things to occur simultaneously with one another---flames spread throughout the attic insulation.as the burning embers were swept to the left and right within the interior of the attic, and (b) other embers flew out of the roof exterior riding the upward arc of the swinging ax---floated down and landed on both Poindexter’s utility shed and his neighbor’s utility shed setting both on fire. Damage to the residence $10,478.80, to P’s utility shed $1,230.00 to neighbor’s $897.40.
  1. Building and construction materials were delivered to begin repairs to the home and left on the driveway. Poindexter and a few friends moved the materials from the driveway to the side so that he could get his car into the driveway and into the garage. He had made arrangements for the repairs to be done while he was at work. Upon arrival at work, he received a call from the foreman who told him that he and his crew had arrived a few minutes ago and had been told all construction materials called for in the estimate had been delivered but none of the materials were present---wanted to know where the stuff was. Poindexter knew it had been delivered and tried to describe where it was finally stating in exasperation that he would be right home. He arrived a few minutes later and discovered as the repair guys before him, that all the materials were gone! Cost for replacement materials $5,733.18.
