POLICE REPORT
I arrived at 1452 Blackbird Court at 11:00 pm. The neighbors, Rob (64 years old) and Sharon (61 years old), met me as I pulled up. They stated that they had arrived home at 10:45pm to see a man running from the home of the neighbor. They called the police.
The front door of the neighbor's house was slightly ajar. Upon entering the house, I noticed that the television was still on but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. In the kitchen area there was a broken glass next to the sink with what appeared to be blood. The bedroom was neatly arranged except for an overturned jewelry box. The contents were scattered on the carpeted floor. A search of the rest of the house revealed the body of a female lying face up and submerged in a bathtub of water. The body had no signs of visible life, was warm but not stiff. The water was warm to the touch. I called immediately for the paramedics, secured the scene, and then interviewed the witnesses.
Rob:"My wife and I arrived home at approximately 10:45 pm and saw a man run from my neighbor's house. We don't know her very well, she lived alone, didn't even own a pet. She moved in a month ago. I think her name is Sue or something like that, but I don't know her last name at all. The guy was in such a hurry that he didn't even shut the front door. I think he also could have swiped the parked car in the road as he left. That worried us and my wife ran into the house and called the police."
Sharon:"I think her name is actually Samantha. Everything is usually pretty quiet at her house during the day. She does have a yardman who comes every week. I have heard cars coming and going at night. I think she has a boyfriend that pays her a visit now and then. I did not get a good look at the man, but he was driving a dark blue or black mid-size vehicle."
Autopsy Report
The woman was identified as Samantha Betnam by her brother and through fingerprint analysis. She is 28 years old, 5'6" and weighs 135 pounds. Around her neck were fingerlike bruise marks. There was a contusion on the back of her head. A slight cerebral hemorrhage was found. The lungs contained no water. There was an enlarged heart but all other organs were found to be healthy and normal. Toxicology results showed large quantities of ethyl alcohol in the blood (0.30 blood alcohol level).
Suspects
A search warrant was issued for Samantha's boyfriend's apartment and car as well as her yardman's home and car. The boyfriend, Fred Flap, drove a navy Honda Accord, while the yardman, Silver Maple, drove a black Toyota Celica. Each lived alone except for a few pets. Silver owned two cats while Fred owned a dog. Standard reference samples of fingerprints, blood, human and animal hair, auto paint, and personal belongings were collected along with evidence from the crime scene.
