These are your notes for a news story that will appear in Harkensville's daily newspaper tomorrow (Thursday). Make sure to edit your story for grammar, punctuation and AP style: Three cars were involved. The driver of one of the cars has been arrested for drunk driving. One person was killed. Another was seriously wounded. The accident has tied up the evening rush hour by the time you get there. Cars get tied up in the traffic for more than an hour. The accident occurred on Chester Street just before rush hour began. The dead man is George Kaufman, 2629 Rodeo Drive. The car Kaufman was driving crashed into a telephone pole after it was hit by another car. Kaufman's wife, Silvia Kaufman, was injured in the accident. Mrs. Kaufman is at Harkensville General Hospital in serious condition, according to hospital officials you have contacted. A number of witnesses told the police Kaufman's car seemed to be weaving back and forth on the street. Sgt. Roland Pressman said some witnesses claimed Kaufman's car seemed to be going very fast. A pickup truck was coming down Chester St. from the other direction. It also was going very fast, according to Pressman. The policeman said at one point the pickup ran up onto the sidewalk near the First Federal S&L branch. The pickup was being driven by high school student Ken Johnson of 130 Springtown Road. Pressman said Johnson was not injured: "It's a miracle." Pressman investigated the accident. He said Johnson swerved off the sidewalk and into Kaufman's car. The police measured 60-foot skid marks for Johnson's truck. Kaufman's car careened into the telephone pole after it got hit by Johnson's truck. A dog was thrown out of the bed of the truck. It died at the scene. Johnson's truck sideswiped a third car driven by Lester Tarly of 416 Bewley Ave. The Tarly car was behind the Kaufman car. "There was nothing I could do to get out of the way," Tarly told the police. Tarly hit his head on the side door in the accident. He received six stitches in his scalp at Harkensville General Hospital and was released. Kaufman sustained head injuries. He died shortly after he arrived at the hospital, Pressman said. Mrs. Kaufman also has head injuries as well as two broken ribs and a broken arm, according to doctors in the ER. Pressman confirmed her injuries. Johnson has a bail hearing is set for tomorrow. A spokesman for the city jail said Johnson was being held there. Police arrested Johnson on the scene. He is 18 years old and was charged by the police with driving under the influence of alcohol.
