Policies and procedures in the transportation sector are an essential part for the growth and development. Policies provides guidelines, plan, direction, instruction, map, and protocol that are in compliance with the law and regulations. In other to provide an environment where all modes of transport are successful the UK government and the European with time developed policy framework aimed at allowing each transportation mode to operate efficiently and effectively by meeting their needs, standards, and attempting to reduce the overall impact on the environment. In UK, the government was focus on dealing with the growing problems of congestion and pollution. Their Department for Transport published the White Paper, A New Deal for Transport that is better for everyone to enhance public transport and come up with an acceptable alternative for private car uses, causing congestion and pollution. Basically, they wanted to reduce the use of road transport and increase the use of rail, inland waterways, and coasted. This means switching from road freight to more intermodal freighting. The Transport Ten-Year Plan was also published, and it was set to provide a long-term strategy for delivering a quicker, safer, more punctual, and environmentally friendly transport system. On the other hand, European had the same intention as the UK with their policies and procedures. They established a common rule for the combined transport of goods and ensure optimum management of its transport resources in the interest of all citizens. Their focus was to reduce the increased problems of road congestion, environment, and the safety of the public. The European Directive was set to encourage the use of combined transport by freeing it from all quantitative restrictions and eliminating other administrative constraints that still exist in the field of road transport. I think both the UK and the European had a common objective, aim, and goals for their transportation system by fulfilling the needs of current and future generations and ensuring balance between economic growth, environmental care, and social well-being. I never knew that transportation entails a lot until a friend of mine invited me to their office for a tour. I was surprised on how transport of goods were manage, coordinates, plan, organized and even the network involved in shipping and tracking. Since then, I have realized that all the transportation and shipping companies are doing a great job because it is not easily to ship a single piece of a product in and out of the country
