Companies are using more product placements in shows and movies because of the change in consumer habits. Before TiVo, Netflix, and other streaming services, you had to sit through commercials to watch your favorite show or movie. People would take advantage of commercial breaks to use the restroom or get a snack without missing a thing. But then TiVo came into existence and changed the way society watches television. Now, we can eliminate commercials and pause when needed. These new modern conveniences in technology are forcing businesses to create new ways to promote their products and build interest.

It is Apple's prerogative on how it wishes to conduct business with product placement. I have seen the movie Knives Out and never paid attention to what type of phone each character had. I would have never considered these products as part of a clue into who is the villain in the movie. I viewed the phone as a prop and a moment to provide advertising. Maybe I have become accustomed to or immune to these methods. However, knowing Apple's preference will not affect how I watch movies in the future. If I was part of Apple's marketing department, I would highly recommend allowing the phone to be used by all parties in a movie or show. The objective is to market to those watching and not allow a similar business to have an advantage.

Companies need to use product placement since now ads can be skipped. Streaming services also offer options to skip ads if you pay the higher price. This means that people are not watching as many ads as they used to, before these options became available. Companies have to get creative and find other ways to put their items out there. Product placement, if done correctly, can be seamless and more desirable to people.

I have noticed if I look a product up on my phone such as a clothing item, I will gets ads on social media. For example I was looking at dresses from a specific store, the next time I went on my Instagram account, I saw ads from the same store. I don't buy products unless I really want it, so the targeted advertising does not get to me. However, I do find it a little creepy how advertisements are made just for me. I think we should have more privacy as consumers.
