Technical skills are needed to develop ideas and create garments. Communication skills are used to present designs and get feedback from customers. In this unit you will learn how to: 1. Examine a customer\'s needs in order to research design ideas. 2. Experiment with design ideas and materials using different fashion design techniques. 3. Create a sketchbook that shows the development of designs and a portfolio that presents finished designs. 4. Review the quality of your design process and finished designs based on customer feedback. Assignment 1 Please invent a customer to complete this assignment. You are going to design a creative and inspirational garment for them for an event which you will choose. Task 1 \'What the Customer Wants\' In this task you will collect lots of information about your customer and start to research design ideas. 1. Start a new sketchbook and think carefully how you will organise it. 2. Collect information about your customer and the event they are going to. Record the information (70-150 words) and include details about: Who your customer is The garment you will design The season the garment is for The event the garment is for The colours, fabrics and patterns your customer likes/dislikes Your customer\'s budget 3. Your tutor will be using this scheme when reviewing your assignment. The following Pass criteria must be met in order to pass the assignment. Once you have achieved all Pass criteria in all assignments within the unit, you will then be able to progress to the next unit of your course. Pass criteria Criteria LO 1.1: Examine a customer\'s needs in order to research design ideas. They produced sketches of design concepts and annotated photographs of draping showing their design work. They produced sketches, swatches, photographs and fashion croquis to present a final concept based on the theme and customer\'s needs (Assignment 1, task 2).
