Power Lab Na me: For this lab, you will be doing activities along with the calculations. The concepts of work and power will be looked at. Work is the transfer of energy by a force that causes it to move. Power is the rate that work is being done. If you cannot do the activities, you may have someone else complete the tasks. Purpose: In this lab you will find out how powerful different muscles in your body are. Procedure: A. Push-Ups: 1. In a \"push up\" position, measure the distance from your chin to the oor and multiply by 10. If you don't have a ruler use the width ofyour hand as being 8 cm. 2. When doing pushups, you are raising about 233 ofyour mass. Record this data. Measure and record the time to do 10 push-ups. Nobody will see you doing them so any method will work. B. Stairs: 1. Find a ight of stairs [at least 3]. Measure the height of 1 step and multiply by how many steps. 2. Record your mass on the chart. Measure the time it takes for you to walk up one ight of stairs. 4. Measure the time it takes for you to walk quickly or run up the flight of stairs. w Fill in the chart: We\" WW --- Running stairs Walking stairs Conversion: 1 h: 4.5 N 1 hp = ME hp Calculations: 1. Change mass to weight: F= ma 2. Calculate the work for each activity. 3. Calculate the power for each activity. Show work for the push-ups below: Work: Power: Conclusion: 1. Which task had the greatest work? Which task had the greatest power? Did the greatest work have the greatest power? Explain. 2. How does work change when you went slow and fast up the stairs? Explain your reason for that. 3. How can a 10-yearold have more power than a midyear-old weightlifter going up the same hill
