Practice Question #6 - An estimator has to calculate the material cost of carpet tiles for specific areas in a new office building. What is the total material cost for the building? There are 4 floors in the building and each floor has a rectangular area to be carpeted that is 73.6 feet by 58.9 feet. The cost for the carpet is $129.1 per square meter. The estimate will also have to include a carpet edge strip that will go around 3 sides of the rectangular area, one of the long edges and both of the two short edges. When installing carpet there is waste as pieces have to be cut, and the waste percent is 7.2% for the carpet tiles and 3.4% for the edge strip. The cost for the carpet edge strip is $24.5 per metre. There are 3.2808 feet in a linear metre. Hints: make sure you know what a linear metre is vs a square metre, this question encourages you to draw a simple diagram, and also typically requires you to write down multiple calculations and then total them. Lastly, the measurement term metre and meter are both commonly used
