Practice Written Portion: Topics 8 - 9 Question: Please answer each question fully, providing all reasoning. You will be graded based on both mathematical correctness and clarity of writing. See the Written Portion Rubric on D2L for more details. Let b denote the last nonzero digit of your UCID number. e.g. if your UCID is 9876543280 then b = 8. 1. A cylindrical metal can without a top is made to contain 100 x b cm of liquid. Use the Global Interval Method to find the dimensions (radius and height) that will minimize the amount of metal needed to make the can. Leave your final answer as an exact value or round to two decimal places. Include units in your final answer. Hint: If a cylinder without a top has radius r and height h, then the volume of the cylinder is rrh and the surface area is mr2 + 2ntrh. The Global Interval Method is a theorem, and so to receive full points you must clearly explain why the assumptions of the theorem hold, and then clearly explain what the theorem tells us. Explain your solution using full sentences. See Written Portion Rubric for more information
