Prague Hotel Data Requirements Description

My name is Gustave. I own a luxury hotel in Czechoslovakia. The service is old-fashioned, but we like to keep up with modern technology in the back room. That's why I am hiring you to develop a computer system for me. The way my business works is this:

Our hotel has over a hundred rooms. Most are Standard, but some others are Luxury. In addition, we have a few multi-room Suites. Guests make reservations ahead of time, or will register as walk-ins. We have lots of repeat guests, and like to keep track of their preferences in rooms, and food. The bulk of the hotel staff are the Floor Maids, four to each floor. They are supervised by the Floor Managers, one to every four floors. Also on the staff are Desk Clerks, who work eight hour shifts, two clerks per shift. In addition, there is a Concierge, who manages each shift. He, or in these modern times, often she, gets a report when coming on shift about what rooms are occupied on each floor, and what time of room it is.

The hotel also has a fine dining room, but we are going to wait to computerize that later.

I need to modernize my reservation and guest tracking system. Right now it uses paper forms and 3x5 cards.

Based on the description above, and the sample forms on the next page, your assignment is to produce the following drawings:

A) A Context Data Flow Diagram. Show and label flows in and out of the system.

B) One possible process for this system is Check a guest into the hotel. Draw the Data Flow Diagram for this process, properly labeling all elements. Each data flow should also show the data fields that are being transferred.

C) Another possible process for this system is Generate shift report for Concierge. Draw the Data Flow Diagram for this process, properly labeling all elements. Each data flow should also show the data fields that are being transferred.
