Pre-Lab Questions Complete the following questions prior to your lab. You will submit a printed copy of your solutions at the start of your lab session. Late submissions will not be accepted. Note: Pre- lab questions are to be submitted individually. Your TA may review these questions with you during your lab. These questions are designed to help with formulating the experiment. Please read the following scenario carefully: A mass, M, on a friction-less table is attached (horizontally ) to an elastic which is attached to a string. Now suppose you hold the other end of that string in a fixed position to a force sensor and allow the mass to freely travel in the direction away from the sensor. The string is sufficiently long that it is untaught at the beginning of this scenario. Answer the following: 1.) Sketch (and label) the force acting on the mass as a function of time in this sce- nario. Hint: This implies that the force acting on the mass is not constant throughout the whole scenario. [2 Marks] 2.) Predict and sketch (and label) a velocity versus time graph of the scenario. [2 Marks] 3.) From these sketches, identify where, and how you could prove the impulse-momentum theorem. [1 Mark]
