As a result of my examination of the racial disparities in arrests and sentencing in the criminal justice system Petersilia, J. (1985). Racial differences in the criminal justice system: A summary.Crime & Delinquency, I created my initial recommendations to the mayor, focusing on implementing comprehensive changes that will make it easier to address the underlying prejudices of the criminal justice system. Community-oriented policing can help increase confidence between the police and their communities by providing a program that fosters trust between the police and the people they serve. As part of this process, law enforcement officers will be trained in cultural sensitivity and de-escalation techniques.

They will also be actively encouraged to engage in community outreach programs to promote openness and participation. Rather than relying solely on police resources, local leaders, advocacy groups, and citizens should work cooperatively with the police. This will ensure their policing tactics align with their communities' needs and concerns. Supporting education and rehabilitation programs is a second aspect of halting the crime cycle. There is immense potential for communities to reduce recidivism rates and address the underlying causes of criminal behavior by implementing programs for mental health, employment training, and education.

It would also be beneficial to reduce the disproportionate impact of the criminal justice system on the most vulnerable by finding alternatives to jail for non-violent crimes, as well as reviewing sentencing standards to minimize the disproportionate impact of the criminal justice system on the least privileged. Implementing these suggestions effectively can be one of the most challenging aspects of the process, so any potential challenges must be considered. Law enforcement agencies face various challenges regarding functioning effectively, including legislation, budgetary restrictions, and internal resistance to change within the agencies themselves. It is no secret that law enforcement agencies face several challenges to function efficiently. It may take much time and effort to bring about cultural change within the criminal justice system. This will take time and effort, as evolution requires time and intentional action. Community participation and effective communication techniques are essential for winning loyal supporters.

This is when public opinion and resistance to reform stand in the way. For these suggestions to succeed in achieving a more just and equitable criminal justice system, municipalities and senior officials must recognize and take responsibility for overcoming these obstacles.

I propose a multipronged approach rather than focusing on individual arrest and sentencing disparities. The community needs confidence in implementing enforcement programs oriented to the community. In addition to promoting openness, training officers in cultural sensitivity, and working with local leaders, these activities should also emphasize teamwork.

Additionally, funding educational and rehabilitative programs is crucial to addressing the underlying causes of criminal behavior. Workforce training, mental health services, and reevaluation of sentencing parameters should be prioritized Caruso, G. (2017). Public health and safety: The social determinants of health and criminal behavior.Gregg D. Caruso. Although potential obstacles exist, such as opposition within the police force, financial limitations, and legislative requirements, they should still be recognized. Maintaining a constant commitment to cultural transformation, communication proficiency, and community involvement is imperative for these guidelines to promote a just and equitable criminal justice system.

You will imagine you are employed at a criminal justice organization facing a communal problem. Your superior at the organization has asked you to review the problem situation and offer your recommendations. You will be given the chance to evaluate the situation and develop suggestions that will inform development of strategies to address the issue using appropriate ethical and transparent leadership and communication skills.

The main purpose of this fourth milestone of your project is for you to work on the recommendations portion of your final project. You will use your previous analysis of the leadership and ethics and recommend strategies to help improve the organization's use of ethical decision-making, the overall culture of the organization, and their relationship with the community. You will then identify obstacles that might occur when the plan is being implemented and strategies to help the organization implement and uphold your recommendations.

Prompt

Using the case study you selected in Milestone One, complete the following critical elements:

  1. Recommendations
    1. Recommend an appropriate and effective leadership style that superiors at the organization could employ to address the problem and best fit the organization based on your previous analysis. Be sure to justify your response.
    2. Make recommendations to leadership for resolving the situation that balance the needs of the community, effectively addressing the problem, and what is ethically appropriate. How should leadership balance these three important elements in addressing the problem?
    3. Recommend strategies or actions that leadership could take to improve community relations and foster growth and trust between the community and the organization in response to the problem from the chosen scenario. Be sure to justify your response and to support your response with appropriate research from the field gathered in your previous review.
    4. Recommend strategies or actions that leadership could take to maintain and improve the culture of the organization in response to the ethical decisions of leadership regarding the problem from the chosen scenario. Be sure to justify your response and to support your response with appropriate research from the field gathered in your previous review.
    5. Make recommendations for the organization on how they could account for obstacles that might impede the organization in addressing the problem and implementing your recommendations.
    6. Explain how the organization could implement and uphold your recommendations. For example, should they enact new policies? Training?
    7. Explain how the organization would consider any budgetary constraints they might face both in addressing the problem and implementing any of your recommendations.
