Presentation on Recreation

We have concentrated on private-sector hospitality issues, though the government continues to be a tremendous supporter of recreation. With that as a background, assess the following:

Explain what government-sponsored recreation is in the United States, including several examples of the more prominent government-sponsored recreation programs, and the economic impact of providing this recreation.

Assess the role of government in recreation. Should the government be involved in recreation, or should recreation be a purely private enterprise? In your determination, assess the value that citizens may realize from government-sponsored recreation and whether such benefits can be provided better through the private sector.

Finally, how would you assess the effectiveness of government-sponsored recreation? For the private sector, incomes/sales determine the success of nearly any business. What are the factors that determine governmental success, and are those factors appropriate to consider in the recreation industry?
