Presentation Scenario 3.
Enrick had several falls within a short period at his home and the family transferred him to your residential aged care facility. Enrick was assessed and categorised as "high risk for fall". Nurses and PCAs are required to use hoist, slide sheets and wheel chair to assist Enrick with ambulation.
However, Merlyn (Enrick's wife and primary carer) and Fredlyn (Enrick's daughter) had no knowledge and skills in using this equipment. Merlyn and Fredlyn wish to support Enrick as much as they can when they visit him. They are concerned about how well Enrick will adapt to this facility environment as he was an independent man and this transition was unexpected.
You are required to make presentation for following tasks:
- What are the potential risks in this situation including risks associated with changes to the care relationship, potential physical and psychological harms affecting Enrick, Fredlyn and Merlyn.
- Provide the strategies to address potential risks and mitigate their effects.
- Describe how you would support Merlyn and Fredlyn to maximise their ongoing support and involvement in the life of Enrick.
- What are the ways to exercise privacy and confidentiality in this context?
