Principal Coleman's initial design iteration drew on the Hasso Plattner Institute at Stanford to guide his steps to address the need for innovative change in STEM teaching and learning. His interpretation of design thinking as a tool included the following steps: (a) empathizing with stakeholders, (b) defining specific problems of practice, (c) ideating a multitude of solutions, (d) developing a prototype or strategic plan of implementation, and (e) testing implementation strategies while documenting the opportunities and impediments of the prototype
