Problem 2

In this problem, we will examine a sample of call center call volume data. This data is presented in Tab 2 of the data set. Do the following:

  • Use a Pivot Table to calculate the average call volume and the standard deviation of call volume by Day of the Week. Include only non-holiday calls. Also include in the pivot table the number of observations, i.e., the number of records for each day of the week.

Management is working on staffing plans based on average call volume. They would like to evaluate 2 claims made by the call center manager. The first claim is that the average call volume on Mondays is greater than 725. The second claim is that the average call volume on Fridays is less than 475. For each hypothesis do the following:

  • State the null and alternative hypothesis
  • Determine the critical t value for the test for an = .05 level test.
  • Calculate the test statistic
  • Calculate the p-value
  • State your conclusion.
  • Evaluate and summarize the results.
