Date Activities Units Acquired at Cost Units Sold at Retail Jan. 1 Beginning inventory 600 units @ $ 60 /unit Feb. 10 Purchase 400 units @ $ 57 /unit Mar. 13 Purchase 150 units @ $ 45 /unit Mar. 15 Sales 750 units @ $ 85 /unit Aug. 21 Purchase 150 units @ $ 65 /unit Sept. 5 Purchase 450 units @ $ 61 /unit Sept. 10 Sales 600 units @ $ 85 /unit Totals 1,750 units 1,350 units

Required:

1. Compute cost of goods available for sale and the number of units available for sale.

2. Compute the number of units in ending inventory.

3. Compute the cost assigned to ending inventory using (a) FIFO, (b) LIFO, (c) weighted average, and (d) specific identification. For specific identification units sold consist of 600 units from beginning inventory, 300 from the February 10 purchase, 150 from the March 13 purchase, 100 from the August 21 purchase, and 200 from the September 5 purchase. (Round your average cost per unit to 2 decimal places.)

4. Compute gross profit earned by the company for each of the four costing methods. (Round your average cost per unit to 2 decimal places.)

1. - Cost of goods available for sale = (600 x 60) + (400 x 57) + (150 x 45) + (150 x 65) + (450 x 61) = $102,750

- Units available for sale = 600 + 400 + 150 + 150 + 450 = 1,750 units

2. Number of units in ending inventory = 1,750 - 750 - 600 = 400 units

3. FIFO closing stock = 400 x 61 = $24,400 LIFO closing stock = 400 x 60 = $24,000 Weighted Average = 102,750 x 400/1,750 = $23,486 Specific Identification = (100 x 57) + (50 x 65) + (250 x 61) = $24,200

4. Gross profit = Sales - Cost of goods sold Sales = (750 x 85) + (600 x 85) = $11,750

FIFO Gross Profit = 114,750 - (102,750 - 24,400) = $36,400 LIFO Gross Profit = 114,750 - (102,750 - 24,000) = $36,000 Weighted Average Gross Profit = 114,750 - (102,750 - 23,486) = $35,486 Specific Identification Gross Profit = 114,750 - (102,750 - 24,200) = $36,200

HOWEVER.... The weighted average calculation is incorrect which in turn makes the weighted average gross profit calculation incorrect also. Please help. :(
